...for a donut-maker
How many donuts have I purchased from that man at the bottom of the ramp? I feel that it might be close to a hundred. Today, after all these years, I returned to Footscray and gave the donut-maker a carnation. He was in the process of hand-rolling the balls, but turned at my approach and accepted the gift through the window. I had to reach it over that dolphin-shaped squirter of jam.

Thoughts on Mr. Depp?
dolphin-shaped squirter of jam?!!!!!!

Oh, man! I want me one of those! *Adds to birthday list*
Yai donuts! Yai carnations! :)

How was today, cos I'm wondering if I should bother being excited about it... I love having friends across the world - I've got people (in Australia, Russia) who can tell me how the day might be, and I can tell other people (Canada, US) how the day might be too! Yeah, I'm a bit crazy. :)

Re: Thoughts on Mr. Depp?
If today were a colour it would be blue; if a fruit, a blackberry.

And, yes, you must get yourself one of those jam-squirters.

Hooray for donut-makers! :)
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:09 am (UTC)
Hooray! Long may they squirt.

OMG i love that donut guy. everytime i go into the city i want to stop at footscray just to get donuts there. and the dolphin shaped jam squirter is so entirely awesome.

i never expected to hear from you being so close to my world. it's strange, but a little cool. i hope i get to see you handing out flowers at some point.

When I lived in Newport I had the same temptation every time I caught the Werribee line. Happily, I was teaching English in Footscray on Saturday mornings, so had a weekly excuse for doughnuts.

I'm glad to be back in this part of the world, and pleased that local people are reading this. Cheers!

Mmm footscray donuts.
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:11 am (UTC)
I second that, heartily.

A flower is pretty much the greatest token of your appreciation.
And now I want a donut.
sockscantmatch on November 14th, 2006 06:56 pm (UTC)
so do I.

I wonder where I might find a dolphin-shaped squirter of jam... I had a teacher back in high school, whom I gave much grief, that might like one.. ^__^

Just a side note, if I could, I'd send you one of those nifty little v-gift flowers LJ has to offer.. But alas, I am broke... again.. Someday though! Someday...

I look forward to the V-gift - but for your sake, not mine...

I have no idea about finding a jam-squirter. The guy may well have made the thing himself!
adnara on November 14th, 2006 03:07 pm (UTC)
Aww :)

These people never seem happy or grateful for the flowers. Except for the clown-guy on stilts. But then, I guess that would be a fun job.
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:14 am (UTC)
You're right - some people are happier than others...

Sigh.

I work at a donut shop :D
It sure is a happy industry.

I just got a job at a bakery... it's sort of the same thing?

did you think he might have thought you wanted to ask him for a donut secret-recipe?

perhaps the squirter of jam might have been useful in squirting you in the eye then. yeouch.
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:15 am (UTC)
I'm sure that he would have had no qualms whatsoever about using the thing as a blinding weapon. Fortunately I was perfectly comfortable leaving the recipe to him...
sockscantmatch on November 14th, 2006 06:58 pm (UTC)
ah, donuts. or doughnuts... not so sure on the spelling. very inspiring you are, thiel...
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:16 am (UTC)
As to spelling, I alternate...

Thanks for the encouraging words!

I'm glad you liked it.

Now that we're now entering the end of the year what will you do next year? I suppose that is assuming that once the year is up you will be finished handing out flowers. If you are then that would be the end of a very great thing. Though, all great things do indeed come to an end, so cest la vie.

The flowers are still a wonderful thing though. :D
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:17 am (UTC)
Yes - the flowers will end as the year does. Next year I'm considering adapting my life to a calendar of the saints, or else doing things with lemons. Your thoughts?

I love how you include all these small, seemingly insignificant details, like the jam squirter. By the way, what color carnation was it?
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:17 am (UTC)
The carnation was a pale orange colour. I'm glad that you're enjoying my work.
mochaberry on November 15th, 2006 07:47 am (UTC)
Jam for donuts? Interesting.

I cannot read you at all today. I hope you are well.
thiel on November 17th, 2006 05:18 am (UTC)
Jam doughnuts are the best kind, aren't they? Especially when they're newly hot.

And, yes, I'm fine - just struggling to get close to the internet, these days.
